F. Garrett Edwards, DVM
Dr. Edwards earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in crop, soil, and environmental sciences from Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University and achieved his DVM from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He has a strong interest in equine and cattle reproduction. Dr. Edwards was born, raised and currently resides in Smithfield. When he is not assisting our clients with their large animal needs, you can find him on the family farm tending to his own cattle and horses. He spends a majority of his free time with his two children Rett and Hannah and also enjoys fishing, horseback riding, swimming, and canoeing.
Cathleen Lombardi, DVM
Dr. Lombardi received her Bachelorís Degree in animal science from Cornell University and earned her DVM from Kansas State University. She completed a post DVM internship in large animal surgery at Virginia Tech. Although she enjoys all aspects of general practice, she has special interest in chiropractic, dentistry, lameness, and internal medicine. Dr. Lombardi is originally from Westchester County, New York where she grew up riding hunters and was a typical horse crazy little girl. Currently she resides in Carrollton with her husband Jay Hollingsworth. They have three rescue dogs named Sawyer, Casey, and Emmie. In her free time she enjoys learning dressage with her off-the-track Thoroughbred Missy.
Shanna Edwards, DVM
Dr. Shanna obtained her Bachelor of Science degree and DVM from Auburn University in Alabama. She has strong interest in equine reproduction and cattle work. Dr. Shanna was raised in Lenoir City, Tennessee and resides in Smithfield. She has a guinea pig named Igor and two Appaloosa horses that she enjoys riding in her free time.
Jessica S. Mattingly, DVM
Dr. Mattingly earned her undergraduate and DVM from Texas A&M University. She is originally from Corpus Christie, Texas. She moved to Virginia with her husband James Peavy and joined our practice in the fall of 2008. Dr. Mattingly has special interests in chiropractic, reproduction, dentistry, and lameness. She has a retired Thoroughbred named Jack and a yellow lab named Lily. In her free time she enjoys camping, kayaking, and spending time with family.
Sherri D. Field Gard, DVM
Dr. Gard joined The Oaks Equine and Farm Service in June 2016. She is a native of Central Illinois yet spent the last 12 years migrating through the East Coast with her USMC husband. Dr. Gard is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and has special interests in ophthalmology and podiatry.

Joan, a Smithfield native, is happily married with two grown children. She and her husband, Billy, live in Smithfield with their horse, Shrek, and 3 cats, Piggy, Simon, and Nellie. Joan enjoys spending time outdoors and swimming, but most of all riding her horse. She has been with the Oaks Veterinary Clinic for over 20 years.
Linda is a native of Albemarle, North Carolina. She and her husband, Andy, live in Surry County with their two horses and one cat. Linda and Andy have four children and grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, swimming and spending time with her grandchildren.
Beth, a Smithfield native, grew up on her family's farm raising hogs and cattle. She currently resides in Suffolk with her husband, Evan and their dogs, Spencer and Winston, and cats, Bug and Gremlin. She graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S.B.A. in Business Management. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.
Tara is a native of Suffolk and currently resides in Hampton with her husband Kerry. They have a dog named Belle, two cats Mo and Bootsie, and a Thoroughbred named Murphy. Tara was previously a Veterinary Assistant in the trucks with the doctors and has returned to the Oaks after several years in food service sales to assist in the office. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding, reading, and spending time at the beach with friends and family.
Brittany lives in Carrsville with her family. She studied business at Old Dominion University. Throughout high school she competed in hunters and Walking Horse shows. In her spare time Brittany volunteers with her fiancé, Dustin, at a local Rescue Squad and enjoys riding her horse Hero.
Danielle Wester, a North Carolina resident, joined the clinic in August 2015 to assist Dr. Shanna on farm calls. She shows and trains horses in multiple disciplines in her free time.Her previous work experience gives her excellent computer skills for this busy job as a veterinary assistant. She enjoys spending time with her husband Jonathan at field trials,as well as playing with her two horses Baron and Bunny and her two dogs Lulu and Remi.
Tracey joined our team in January 2016 to assist Dr. Jessica on farm calls, but moved into the office in September of 2016. She has a degree from Virginia Tech in Equine Science, and has been riding, showing, training, and managing horses for over 20 years. She and her husband, Anthony, own a small horse boarding barn in Suffolk. Their family consists of 2 dogs, Gunner and Mango, a horse named Piper, a cat named Oscar, and a bearded dragon named Dax. In her free time, Tracey enjoys working on their farm, riding her horse, and kayaking.
